Wang Yanru

Since 2004 Wang Yanru has produced paintings sharing a theme of insects and birds. Her work features a rather objective reference as opposed to the nature. It expresses her personal thoughts of growths but also the worries about the erosion of the materialism of the consumption times that is threatening nature. She questions if China, which is wrapped under the system of the western values, can gain the comfort of the soul through the traditional culture.

China has a long tradition of paintings of flowers and birds as e.g. in the Song Dynasty. Wang Yanru refers to that tradition but expresses herself in a contemporary way.
